Design
The first thing you’ll obviously notice about the Razer Huntsman Mini 60% Optical Gaming Keyboard is its small size. As my daughter put it, it’s “cute.” The keyboard itself is constructed from aluminum and has a decent weight to it for being so small. Speaking of small, it is roughly 11.6-inches wide, 4.1-inches deep, and 1.5-inches in height (including keycaps).
There are five rows on the keyboard and it lacks the Fn key row, number pad, as well as other function keys like the arrow and page up/down, home and other related keys. That said, you can access these by using the Fn key and pressing one of the alphanumeric keys on the keyboard. You don’t have to guess either as the Fn alternative is printed on the front facing side of each doubleshot PBT keycap that has one. For example, your media functions like play, pause, and volume, can be accessed by using Fn and Tab, Q, W, E, R, and T. There are also Fn key combinations for on-the-fly macro recording, gaming mode, backlight control, and sleep mode.

Razer also has PBT Keycap Upgrade sets for their mechanical and optical keyboards. They are available in Black, Mercury (white), Quartz (pink), and Green. We will be covering these in a separate review but tossed a few green ones onto the keyboard to mix things up. Speaking of colours, the Huntsman Mini is available in Black or Mercury.
The keyboard uses a Type-C to A braided cable and has a Type-C port recessed into the underside of the keyboard at the back. Personally, it would have been nice to have USB-C to USB-C option but given the USB-C port is on the keyboard side, you can easily swap the cable out for a USB-C to USB-C one. The bottom of the keyboard also has two kickstand feet near the back which can be set to flat, 6°, or 9° to suit your desired angle.
To be honest, it takes some time to get used to the 60% form factor and I still don’t think I’m really used to it. While using it for games like Heroes of the Storm, I had no issues but when typing or using for other computer functions, I found it to be way to cramped.
I realize that this is a gaming keyboard and is being marketed as such. That being said, many gamers also use their keyboard for productivity and other non-gaming related tasks as well. I don’t know many people who have two or more keyboards, one for gaming and one for everything else. Instead, I find they focus on the gaming aspect but find one that is still suitable for day to day computer use. This is where the Razer Huntsman Mini falls short as we’ll explain in the next section.
Razer Huntsman Mini review: Performance
Before getting into the configurations or RGB options, I ran the Huntsman Mini through a few dozen turns of Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, my go-to PC game. It’s not as fast-paced as the competitive games for which the Mini was designed, but as a title that relies heavily on the arrow keys (rather than WASD), I was curious to see how the secondary functions, well, functioned.

To use arrow keys with the Mini’s default setup, I had to hold down the Fn key while pressing I, J, K, and L. It’s not exactly comfortable or intuitive, and it wasn’t long before I was in Synapse looking for a better solution. In about a minute, I created a Civ-specific profile and mapped the arrow keys to the W, A, S, and D buttons. Once back in the game, the new configuration worked exactly as intended. That said, Civ veterans know that the strategy game often has you resting your hands on your keyboard as you wait for other players and consider your tactical options, so it still wasn’t as comfortable as just using my gaming laptop keyboard.
Next up was Fall Guys, an online “party royale” that’s been dominating the streaming scene since its release in early August. As a silly, frenetic and appropriately paced multiplayer game, Fall Guys felt like a perfect match for the Huntsman Mini without even having to remap any keys. Even though I typically prefer a controller for this game, I still managed to make it to the final round multiple times with the Huntsman Mini. This simply underscores that the Huntsman Mini achieves its true purpose as a space-saving keyboard for competitive gamers.

Performance
The Razer Huntsman Mini Analog was my first introduction to Razer’s new switch system, and it’s difficult to turn back — difficult, but not impossible. That’s because, while the variable actuation will work with every game that supports a controller input, some games automatically switch to full gamepad mode as soon as you hit that WASD. That means things aren’t as smooth sailing as they first appear.
However, the vast majority of games only require a small amount of tinkering to feel completely different. I was quickly edging around corners and fine-tuning my landing in Apex Legends, which by no means turned me into a decent player (that would be a miracle worth far more than $149) but certainly helped me out of a few jams and felt all the slicker for it.
It took a lot to unlearn a binary on / off actuation, which meant I was often dragging when releasing each key, leaving movement running for a little longer than anticipated. I found myself used to slightly pressing on a key just before needing it, a habit picked up from keyboards with a higher actuation force, but with time I was able to adjust muscle memory correctly.

Once I was away, though, the Razer Huntsman Mini Analog was seriously impressive. The additional control was particularly enjoyable in Forza Horizon 5, and even came in clutch during more precise platformers like Ori and the Will of the Wisps (though some additional configurations were required to keep things smooth here).
I was also particularly impressed with how satisfying the typing experience was. Outside of gameplay, these switches are naturally tactile, and that resistance under each key was just strong enough to offer an incredibly fast bounce back without fatiguing. I was also pleased with the sound profile. While each click has a slightly higher pitch than the deeper linear switches I naturally gravitate towards, there was no ping across the chassis and everything was snappy.
Cutting Edge 60%
For some gamers, it’s mechanical or nothing. This keyboard isn’t for them. Razer set out to build the best non-mechanical keyboard on the market and I think they’ve succeeded. The Huntsman Mini’s optical switches make for a truly premium gaming and typing experience and its software is second-to-none.

It’s worth noting, though, that it’s quite expensive. The $119.99 price point makes it significantly more expensive than most of its mechanical brethren. It also lacks wireless functionality. Buyers may find better value elsewhere unless they are either dedicated to Razer’s optical switches or the synchronicity available through their Chroma software.

Design
The Razer Huntsman Mini is an extremely well-built keyboard. They sent us the Mercury (or white) colored version for our review. It has a very clean-looking aesthetic, with a white body, white keycaps and a white braided cable. The frame is made of aluminum, which is considerably more durable than plastic while still remaining light.
The keycaps are made in-house out of double-shot PBT plastic. This makes them more durable than ABS keys, and means that they’ll maintain a matte finish for much longer (rather than developing a shine on your most-used keys after a while). The braided USB Type-C to Type-A cable that comes with the keyboard is removable and seems to be of premium quality. Don’t be confused, though — the fact that the cable is removable doesn’t mean that the keyboard is wireless.

The backside of the keyboard has two sizes of feet, which can be used to give the keyboard a slight incline. I always find this to be a nice feature since I personally find a flat keyboard makes for an uncomfortable typing experience. All of the feet are made of a grippy rubber that ensures the keyboard won’t move around on your desk while you use it.

Razer made the Huntsman Mini for one primary reason: its fans. There are already many who prefer the feel of the linear optical switches, which are very fast for gaming and day to day usage. The only reason to make a 60 percent keyboard is that some gamers prefer the smaller footprint, and some with very minimal setups want something stripped down.
As someone less focused on gaming and more on work, I enjoyed using the Huntsman Mini for daily typing duties. The amount of space saved without all those extra keys is significant.
The design, execution, colorways, and overall feel make the Huntsman Mini worth it, but only for a specific crowd. That’s fine, and Razer knows this, which is why it has so many variants of this popular series. Getting in on the 60 percent craze simply makes sense.

Performance
Our Razer Huntsman Mini review sample came with the Razer Clicky Optical Switches. These have an actuation distance of 1.5mm and an actuation force of 45g. The other option available are the improved Razer Linear Optical Switches. These offer an actuation distance of 1.0mm and force of 40g.

The Razer Clicky Optical Switches are VERY clicky sounding and loud. As for performance, the keys are responsive and input triggered as expected. With anti-ghosting and N-key rollover as well, I didn’t have any issues while gaming with the keyboard. For games that use mouse/keyboard combinations, like Heroes of the Storm or Call of Duty, the keyboard worked great. As mentioned above, however, if your game allows the use of the arrow keys for movement or other key game functionality, you’ll want to map those to other keys in a dedicated profile for that game.
Razer Huntsman Mini review: Keys
How does a keyboard maintain functionality while eliminating around one-third of its keys? Many of the Razer Huntsman Mini’s keys have additional functions printed on their sides, which you can activate with the function key, or by using Razer’s software to map your own configuration. These additional functions are easy to find thanks to the raised key design, though it still felt strange to use the I, J, K, and L keys as arrows.

If you’re used to flatter keyboards, like the ones you might find on a laptop or a basic USB keyboard, expect to work a little slower on the Huntsman Mini. On a typing test, I scored 70 words per minute at 99% accuracy on the Huntsman Mini. Compare that to 90 words per minute with 99% on my daily workhorse, a 13-inch MacBook Pro, and my 15-inch MSI gaming laptop at 89 words per minute with 99% accuracy, and there’s a bit of a lag on the Razer. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it does emphasize that this keyboard was designed for gaming, not writing.
Even though my typing test results were worse, physically pressing the keys felt immensely satisfying after years of primarily using laptop keyboards. Also, unless you’re the type to really pound on the keys, typing is virtually silent for the version with linear optical switches.

Before we focus on the keyboard’s design, specs, features, and performance, let’s check out its packaging first. We got really excited when it arrived in time for our Razer Huntsman Mini Analog Mechanical Keyboard review. And once we got our hands on it, we saw it in a standard-looking cardboard box that was quite eye-catching.
The front displays an image of the keyboard itself with all its LEDs lit. You’ll also see Razer’s branding here, as well as the product’s name and its key features.
Inside, you’ll find the Huntsman Mini Analog mechanical keyboard together with other inclusions from Razer. These are a USB-A to C cable, USB cap covers, Razer stickers, and a couple of user documentation.

Synapse software
As soon as we connect any Razer keyboard to our main system, the Razer Synapse 3 software installation will be prompted in case the user does not have it already on its computer. After a short while the program will be ready to use and will show us all of the possible options to configure any and all Razer devices we have connected. We find the fact that this particular keyboard can store up to five installation profiles within itself very useful and convenient as it eases the installation process on any other computer we want to use the peripheral with.
One of the few great options found in the software is the possibility to configure the standard and Hyper Shift mode, in which it is possible to add a different function to any key without disrupting the original function. We are able to modify the polling rates for the keyboard, the standard being 125 Hz but being able to reach a 1000 or 2000 Hz in case we do not want to spend CPU resources.

Final Fantasy 14 Online is a bit more forgiving with this keyboard.
In Tera, your cursor is gone unless you press alt, and your camera simply moves with the motion of your mouse. You have to aim to attack enemies or heal your allies.
Final Fantasy 14, however, is a “tab” game. Your cursor is always present and you use it to drag your camera view around. You do not have to aim at anything; rather, you click on or tab to the object you’d like to perform a skill on, and then you can either click the skill or use a hotkey.
Because of that, I didn’t have too much trouble using this keyboard even though it doesn’t have my beloved F row. However, I did still have to program both control and shift onto my mouse so that I could maximize my usage of 1-=.
Even though this keyboard is certainly functional for FFXIV, I do still prefer to use the F row with this game as well. I can live without the number pad and arrow keys for FFXIV, but the F row is my true love.
Software
The Razer Synapse 3 software will, of course, allow you to customize key functionality, program macros, and create up to 5 profiles to swap on the keyboard.

Razer Synapse also allows you to customize the lighting on the keyboard through Chroma RGB. You can choose from default presets like Static, Spectrum Cycling, Breathing, Reactive, Wave, Ripple, Starlight, and Fire, alongside three new ones: Ambient Awareness, Audio Meter, and Wheel. In addition, you can sync the keyboard to have the same effect as other Razer products you may have. If you wish, you can also install Chroma Studio to layer lighting effects, arrange your Razer peripherals, choose per-key lighting effects, and even customize the default presets.

Let’s look into the design and functions of the keyboard here in our Razer Huntsman Mini Analog Mechanical Keyboard review. First off, the Huntsman Mini Analog mechanical keyboard is categorised as a 60% keyboard. Meaning, it doesn’t come with a number pad.
Also, the extra function keys were condensed to the other available keys as secondary functions.
With a total of 61 keys present, the keyboard appears just like its predecessor in both dimensions and design.
When it comes to its build quality, we can only say that it’s excellently sturdy. Its plastic chassis and aluminium top plate give off a durable and solid feel that doesn’t show signs of flex.
For its doubleshot PBT keycaps, they feel nice and clean to the touch. Then, the hotkey legends can be found in front of the keycap. That means, they won’t likely rub off since your fingers won’t touch them when utilising the keyboard.
