Panasonic breathes new life into an old idea

Travel zoom cameras are popular for many reasons, but their main draw is that they are an attempt to check off as many items on a casual shooter’s wish list as possible. Long zoom? Huge list of features? Can fit in a pocket? Sounds great, right? But there are lots of compromises made in the design process—some minor, some more worthy of attention.

Unlike most other point and shoots, the ZS60 has quite the array of advanced features that even novices will appreciate. For example, the autofocus modes allow you to use a traditional 49-point autofocus, manual focus, or even tracking AF—which will take the object you select and remain locked on it wherever it is in-frame. This is a big help with moving objects (kids, wildlife, sports), which are notoriously difficult to capture well. It breaks down a bit at full zoom, though, so you’ll have more success with slower-moving subjects.

A mode dial on the top of the camera gives you access to all the different shooting modes, with dual control wheels for tweaking settings if that’s your thing. With the ability to shoot in RAW and JPEG, even photo junkies will be satisfied with the flexibility the camera offers. There are plenty of scene modes and filters for intrepid shooters to explore, and Panasonic’s bevy of 4K photo—and video—features also make their appearance on the ZS60.

These are some seriously cool features. For example, the ZS60’s software allows you to use the immense shooting resolution that 4K offers to make a well-edited HD video with panning, zooming, and cropping—all in-camera. You can also use the 4K post-focus feature to take a short burst of snaps, and then adjust where the photo is focused after the fact, similar to what you could do with the Lytro light-field camera. This is really fun especially if you like to take a lot of close-up photos, but don’t always get the focus right, or just like to tinker with your shots.

For social media lovers, the ZS60 comes equipped with onboard WiFi so you can port your photos from camera to smartphone. Using the Panasonic Image App, you can even use your smartphone as a remote live-view monitor. This is great not only for group shots, but also for tough to reach angles or long exposures.

The Role Of Technology Gear In Filmmaking

There is no definitive answer to this question. Technology has both advantages and disadvantages when it comes to filmmaking. On the one hand, technological advances have made it possible to create increasingly complex and stunning visual effects. On the other hand, technology can also be a hindrance to filmmakers, as it can be difficult to control and often expensive. Ultimately, it is up to the individual filmmaker to decide how to use technology in their work. Some directors embrace new technologies wholeheartedly, while others prefer to keep things more old-fashioned. There is no right or wrong answer – it all comes down to personal preference.

Some of the advantages of using technology in filmmaking include:

  • Increased control over the final product: Technology allows filmmakers more control over their work, as they can now create exactly the effect they are looking for.
  • Greater flexibility: Technology also gives filmmakers greater flexibility in shooting and editing their films. They can now experiment with different techniques and methods without worrying about the cost or the time involved.
  • Improved quality: Technology has also led to an improvement in the overall quality of films. With more sophisticated equipment and software, filmmakers can now create better-looking and sounding films.
  • Increased audience engagement: Technology can also help to engage audiences more with films. For example, interactive features such as virtual reality can immerse viewers in the film world and make them feel more connected to the characters and story.

Some of the disadvantages of using technology in filmmaking include:

  • Cost: One of the biggest disadvantages of using technology in filmmaking is the cost. New equipment and software can be very expensive and often need to be updated regularly.
  • Time-consuming: Technology can also be time-consuming, as filmmakers often need to spend hours learning how to use new software or equipment.
  • Difficult to control: Another downside of technology is that it can be difficult to control. This is especially true of complex visual effects, which can often go wrong if they are not managed correctly.
  • Can be disruptive: Technology can also be disruptive on set, as it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of all the elements that need to be managed.

There are a number of benefits to using panasonic lumix dmc-zs60 camera, whether it is for amateur or professional use. panasonic lumix dmc-zs60 camera will bring you some of the top benefits. Of course, it is important to remember that you don’t need the most expensive gear to produce good results – it is more important to know how to use what you have to its fullest potential. Nevertheless, if you can afford it, investing in some quality gear will definitely pay off in the long run.

Image Quality

The Lumix ZS60’s image quality is a little bit of a disappointment for a camera in this price range, as it includes only a 1/2.3-inch image sensor, the smallest type of physical sensor available in a digital camera. This model contains 18.1 megapixels of resolution, which is another upgrade over the ZS60’s predecessors.

This is one area where the Lumix ZS60 versus a Lumix TZ100 shows that the more expensive TZ100 (also called the ZS100) has a significant advantage, featuring a 1-inch image sensor with 20.1 megapixels of resolution.

Panasonic provided the ability to shoot photos in RAW with the Lumix ZS60, which is an extremely rare feature among cameras that have 1/2.3-inch image sensors. The sensor is also paired with a Venus Engine image processor. RAW image format photos are recorded without any compression applied to the photo file, as occurs with JPEG image format photos to save recording space on the memory card. Avoiding using compression gives the RAW files better image quality than JPEG files, although the difference between the two image formats isn’t quite as noticeable with the ZS60’s small image sensor as it is when you’re working with a camera with a much larger image sensor.

Low Light Performance and Movie Mode

The Lumix ZS60 (known as the Lumix TZ80 in some parts of the world) is one of the few compact cameras in the market with the ability to create 4K video resolution.

As this Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS60 review shows, it’s great to find 4K video resolution with this model. While digital camera makers are starting to include 4K video resolution alongside full HD video, it’s still not a common feature, especially in a fixed lens camera. It also has 4k photo modes, 4k post focus, and a max shutter speed of 1/2000 sec.

One problem that this model has that affects both its 4K video and its low light photography performance is the introduction of noise in its images. Because the image sensor is small in physical size, it has some problems with incorrectly recorded pixels (noise). The image sensor’s noise problems are part of the reason Panasonic limited the Lumix ZS60 to a maximum ISO setting of 3200, because higher ISO settings would create unusable photos as a result of noise.

Rather than increasing the ISO, you likely will want to use the embedded flash when faced with low light situations. Just be certain that your fingers on your right hand aren’t blocking the flash, as Panasonic’s design team oddly chose to place the flash in the upper left corner of the front of the camera (when viewed from the front), which is where many people naturally have their right-hand fingers while holding a digital camera. Most small cameras have an embedded flash in the upper left corner.

1/2.3″

1/2.3″

(Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX80)

(Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS60)

(Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX80)

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS60

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX80

ZENRIN CO., LTD

Sharpness

Due to the sensor size, resolution, and maximum aperture of the ZS60, sharpness is the biggest weak point of this camera. On paper, having a 30x zoom is attractive, but the reality of the situation is that the maximum aperture constricts down past the diffraction limit about halfway through the zoom range—meaning your shots at full telephoto will be blurry and splotchy.

Credit:
Reviewed.com

It’s not the kind of thing you’ll escape noticing forever, either. In our labs, the ZS60 was able to resolve 2285 line widths per picture height at minimum zoom—a perfectly good result—which nosedived to 1230 lw/ph at half-zoom, and then 792 lw/ph at full telephoto. That’s pretty poor, but there’s only so much you can expect out of a travel zoom.

You may notice a hint of chromatic aberration here and there, but overall common problems like distortion and coma just aren’t going to ruin your day. Pixel peepers might kvetch, but none of these issues will ruin prints or downsampled images.

Performance

Zoom responsibly

Performance-wise, the ZS60 isn’t much more than your run-of-the-mill point-and-shoot camera. It’s not great, but it’s certainly good enough for most people—at least, people who don’t want an interchangeable lens camera or a $1,000 point-and-shoot. That said, there are still some notable tradeoffs to be aware of.

Credit:
Reviewed.com / Kyle Looney

Specifically, any discussion about performance begins and ends with the lens and sensor combination. While a 1/2.3″ sensor and a 30x zoom look good on paper, in practice this much zoom is going to result in some nasty image artifacts that will result in softer images than what better cameras will deliver. I won’t get into the ultra-nerdy details, but in a nutshell it’ll be very good when you’re zoomed out but fine details will begin to blur a bit as you zoom about halfway in before taking a hit at full zoom.

At small sizes this isn’t much of a problem, as even 5×7 and 4×6 prints will look just fine. But if you are planning on taking vacation pics and blowing them up to fill poster-size frames you may have to be very careful about your settings. Of course, a better camera will either cost a lot more money or have significantly less optical zoom—meaning some of those great pictures simply won’t be possible.

Credit:
Reviewed.com / Chris Thomas

But that’s the main anchor dragging the camera down. As you can see from the score, it doesn’t really drag it down that far, and the rest of the performance points are great. Color accuracy is spot-on, camera noise isn’t really an issue you have to worry about, and the ZS60’s automatic white balance function is tops among point and shoots. It struggles a little bit with incandescent lighting, but so do all cameras. {{amazon name=»PNY Elite Performance 64 GB High Speed SDXC Class 10 UHS-I, U3 up to 95 MB/Sec Flash Card (P-SDX64U395-GE)», asin=»B00WWBCSG4″, align=»right»}}

Action shooters will appreciate the ample burst speeds and buffer. For example, you can crank out 10 frames per second shooting RAW+JPEG, but if you don’t need to shoot in RAW, you can rip off JPEGs at the highest quality at a rate of a hair over 40 frames per second. That’s crazy-good, if a little worrying for your SD card. Better make sure to grab one of the newer, UHS-1 (or 3) SD cards that can handle that much data at once. SD memory is pretty cheap, so it’s a good time to stock up anyway.

Video is hit or miss, but not for the expected reasons. For example, you can shoot 4K video with this camera so it’s nice and sharp, but it has a lot of artifacting and aberration issues. The result is much better than what you’ll get with a point-and-shoot that only shoots 1080p video, but there’s definitely a clear difference between what the ZS60 will get you compared to a similarly priced mirrorless camera like the Panasonic GF7.

Lightweight and Zoom Powerful

Table of Contents

The new ZS model offers an impressive number of built-in features.  The 18M sensor is “insurance” when taking high-quality photos in all conditions, and 4K capability means that your favorite travel memories can be recorded in stunning detail. (Although I haven’t tested the 4K options on this camera yet!)

The new ZS model is sturdy and small, weighing around 11 ounces. Combine that with its powerful 30x Zoom LEICA – and this camera can replace lugging around the DSLR and all the extra lenses.

And the clarity of the zoom lens was proven recently on a Colorado road trip. I set up about 100 yards away at the fence and captured this barn and backdrop on the back roads between Sedalia and Palmer Lake. (The fence was lined with photographers carrying DSLR cameras and a slew of extra lenses.)

Image quality compared

Travel enthusiasts looking to capture more detailed scenes will welcome the increase in resolution over its predecessor, the 12.1Mp Lumix ZS50. The extra pixels on the same-sized sensor has had a slightly detrimental effect on overall image quality, however, with the ZS60 achieving slightly lower scores for all sensor metrics. It’s certainly not a huge difference, particularly considering that resolution has increased by a massive 50%; and despite slightly better results at base ISO on the ZS50, we can essentially say they offer the same overall image quality, with the best results achieved at the lower ISO sensitivities.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ80 (ZS60) review – Our verdict

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ80 – Front left

There’s plenty to like about the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ80. It’s a generously featured and highly flexible compact that ticks all the relevant ‘travel camera’ boxes. It also benefits from a number of key upgrades over its predecessor, especially in terms of its video-recording abilities and speedier image processing. The addition of Panasonic’s innovative 4K Photo mode provides a range of useful shooting modes that will undoubtedly help photographers get exactly the shot they want, albeit at reduced resolution.

The TZ80 captured a pleasingly vibrant image of this fishing boat along with good levels of contrast. 720mm, 1/800sec at f/6.4, ISO 200

Despite its inherent flexibility and generous feature set, the TZ80 is sadly not immune from the same image-quality issues that affect many other compact cameras with 1/2.3in sensors. While image quality can be very good in plentiful and even light, the limited dynamic range of the TZ80 more often than not produces images with blown highlights when faced with high-contrast scenes.

Automatic white balance metering isn’t quite as consistent as we’d like, either. Even with the new sensor, the TZ80 can struggle when pushed beyond ISO 800. This manifests itself not only as increased noise, but also in the loss of fine detail and colour saturation.

At the outset of this review, we mentioned that the TZ80 is one of two new additions to the TZ range, the other being the premium TZ100. For those seeking pure image quality, the larger 1in sensor of the TZ100 probably represents a better investment in the long run as the limitations of the TZ80’s smaller sensor do become noticeable in certain situations. That said, for those seeking all-round flexibility, the extended zoom, generous feature set and lower price of the TZ80 may well be more attractive.

About Cameras- Thing Should You Know Before Purchase Panasonic Lumix Dmc-Zs60 Camera

Cameras are an important part of filmmaking. DSLRs are popular for filmmakers because they offer great image quality and manual controls. However, there are other types of cameras that can be used for filmmaking, such as cinema and action cameras.

Cinema cameras are designed for professional filmmakers and offer the best image quality. They are usually more expensive than DSLRs, but they offer filmmakers’ features, such as 4K video, higher frame rates, and better low-light performance.

Action cameras are designed for capturing action and adventure sports. They are small and lightweight, making them easy to carry when you’re on the go. Action cameras also typically have features that make them easy to use, such as built-in stabilisation and wide-angle lenses.

When choosing a camera for filmmaking, it’s important to consider your needs and budget. DSLRs are a great option for many filmmakers, but if you need the best image quality or want to shoot in 4K, then you’ll need a cinema camera. Action cameras are also a good option if you’re looking for something small and lightweight that you can take with you on your adventures.

A film camera is a camera that uses light-sensitive film to capture images. The images are then developed using photographic chemicals, resulting in a negative or positive image. Film cameras have been used for over a century and are still popular among photography enthusiasts.
