Battery Life
Razer claims a battery life of over 100 hours on these, and they’re not wrong. In fact, I haven’t been able to drain the battery since we started reviewing these. I’ve played a few hours here and there and figure I’m around 50 hours of playtime and the controllers are still going strong. The controllers automatically enter standby mode after 60 seconds if they’re not paired or after 10 minutes if they’re not actively being used.
When they do deplete, however, they have to be charged separately. Each controller takes about 2 1/2 hours to recharge (according to Razer). If you don’t have two USB Type-C cables/chargers, you’ll be looking at about 5 hours to fully recharge both. That being said, 5 hours for over 100 hours of battery life is a small price to pay.

Ease of Use
The Razer Junglecat mobile controller is pretty easy to use. Regardless if you’re using the phone grip case or the slide-in controller grip, simply slide the left and right controllers down from the top of either grip and it will slide and snap into place. To remove it, just push up with a bit of pressure to release the internal locking nub and the controller comes off with relative ease.
Of course, you’ll need to pair this to your device via Bluetooth. Again, that’s an easy process. Start by turning on both controllers and they will pair with each other. Next, select Razer Junglecat from the Bluetooth settings on your phone and you should be good to go.

Should you spend the money to pick this up?
If you have one of the three supported phones and you want a mobile gamepad to play mobile games, then yes. If you don’t have a supported phone and you still want a really good mobile gamepad, then yes.
In almost any instance this is a good buy. Unless you really can’t justify spending the $99 on a mobile game controller. Which is totally fine. Other controllers will work with Android, and excellent ones I might add. Like the DualShock 4.
If you don’t play many mobile games or the ones you do play don’t have controller support, then this probably isn’t for you. The cool thing is that there is a fairly large list of supported games at the moment and the list will only grow.
Battery
Razer claims more than 100 hours of battery life for this, and that’s not wrong. I haven’t been able to drain the battery since we started this review. To turn it on, flip the small switch on the bottom of each controller. The light near the shoulder button will flash blue when connected and remain steady green once connected. You only need to pair one controller with your phone as the others will connect automatically. The indicator light near the bumper button will flash red when your battery is low. Junglecat takes two and a half hours to charge. Charging is done via the USB-C port on the bottom of each controller (you’ll need to plug both in).
Solid design, save for perhaps its size
If there’s anything about the Razer Junglecat to gripe about, it’s the size. When attached to the middle connector that the dual-sided controllers lock into, it’s smaller than most controllers out there.
By smaller I mean it’s not really as wide. While that might not be an issue for some, those used to larger gamepads from other platforms may find it to be less comfortable.
Personally, I felt it was extremely comfortable to hold, I just prefer a slightly larger controller while gaming. The Junglecat never did feel uncomfortable or cause any irritation though. And playing games with it for hours was still a very enjoyable experience.
Minus the smaller size, which there is a reason for since it’s meant to be portable, the Junglecat looks and feels good. It definitely feels quality-made and it better for $99. Luckily for anyone hesitant about picking this up because of the cost and a worry that the quality isn’t worth it, don’t be.
I never felt like I was going to accidentally break something when using this. The same can’t be said for the ROG Kunai Gamepad which, is still a nice controller but it didn’t feel as good as it could have, especially considering you pay more for it than you do for this.
With the Junglecat, the design features Razer’s signature matte black looks like all of its tech. Both controllers slide in and out of place on both the middle connector and the included phone cases. They’re not so hard to lock into place that you have to fumble with things too much. Yet they also don’t feel like they will accidentally detach while playing games.
Overall, the controller looks good, feels great, and even though it is a bit smaller than I’d like for gameplay, it fits very nicely into smaller pockets making it super easy to take with you anywhere you anticipate having time to play games.

Razer Junglecat
Razer Junglecat

Razer Junglecat
Razerthink – Perhaps the lack of ergonomics in mobile gaming led Razer to drop the Razer Junglecat; The touchscreen controls are rigid to get used to if you’re used to a mouse and keyboard or a gamepad. Mobile gaming is rising lately, especially with more cloud-based game streaming services hitting the market. Bluetooth cellular controllers aren’t new, but they’ve usually become the full-sized controller with a phone clip, mainly due to the different shapes and sizes of the various smartphones on the market. At first glance, it looks impressive to me – a black dual-ended, ultra-light Android gaming controller featuring everything a generic modern controller should have – joysticks, d-pad, triggers, and bumpers. Each controller section is also equipped with its Type-C port, power switch, and Bluetooth unit.
Which Razer hopes to leverage with the Junglecat game controller. Just swipe over to your existing Android phone, and voila, a Nintendo Switch emergency with access to all your favorite Android games. This Nintendo Switch-like gamepad mounts to a compatible phone case, complete with a switchable joystick. The sticks can be mounted separately for a more traditional controller experience or on the side of various instances specifically designed for mobile devices. And hey, it’s compatible with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Cloud Gaming, which launches on September 15, 2020. Overall, it’s a great buy at $99 and should be on anyone’s radar looking for a controller to use with mobile games. The Razer Junglecat is a pretty slick portable dual-sided game controller that does pretty well — provided you have the correct phone model.
Razer Junglecat controller
At the bottom of each stick is a small switch, which turns on the joystick and sets it in pairing mode. You only need to pair the right post, as the left stick will support the right stick radio for connectivity. The left controller has an LED indicator in the top left corner, a clickable thumbstick in the top third of the controller, four directional buttons at the bottom, and a select button in the bottom right. On the leading edge, you’ll find the bumper and trigger. The bottom edge is where the power switch and USB Type-C charging port are located. You can configure various settings, keybinds, and sensitivities via the Razer Junglecat app, compatible with Android.
The app also lists games fully compatible with the Razer Junglecat, which you can also browse here. The proper controller is the same. Two notable differences are the A/B/X/Y button tactile switch instead of the directional buttons and the start button instead of the select button. Both controllers have slots on the inner edges that attach the controller to the included phone grip box or slide controller grip. Near the bottom, the Razer logo is debossed in a glossy black finish on the outer edge.
The buttons on the controller are great
You have a d-pad, two thumbsticks, select and start buttons, ABXY, and left and right bumpers and trigger buttons. Each thumbstick click also creates an L3 and R3 button so you don’t miss anything you’d find on a standard console controller. The better part is that the buttons on the controller are nice. Big even. They feel very tactile and have an enjoyable ride pushing them in. Razer wants to give its users a good product.
Case
The Razer Junglecat comes with three phone grip cases. One for the Razer Phone 2, another for the Samsung Galaxy S10+, and the third for the Samsung Galaxy Note9. Junglecat only works with Android phones; you will only get a whole handheld experience with all three devices. The phone grip case is made of a pretty lovely matte black plastic.
On the Razer Phone 2 case, there are tears on the left and right sides for the volume and power buttons. The bottom does have a hole for the USB Type-C charging port, but there is no hole at the top for the 3.5mm audio jack. The top and bottom edges of the case have slots similar to those of the sliding controller handle, making it easy to insert the left and suitable controllers into the matter.
Мы ставим контроллер через игровые шаги, как Fortnite, Rayman Adventures, Riptide GP2 и Call of Duty: Mobile.

The Nintendo Switch-like gaming is great, if you have a supported phone
While you can connect this to any phone with Android 7.0 or above that has Bluetooth, it’s really best when you can attach the controllers to the sides of a phone so it plays like a Nintendo Switch.
The problem with this is there aren’t many supported phones for this setup. For the US, it only supports the Razer Phone 2, the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, and the Galaxy Note 9. If you have one of those phones, then this controller is fantastic.
If you don’t, then you’re missing out one of the best thing about it. It’s not a deal breaker, but it is a bummer. Luckily we had the Razer Phone 2 sent out with the controller to test it out. And it’s really nothing short of amazing.
There’s no need to prop the phone up on a kickstand, and as someone who has spent many, many hours with a PS Vita, this was a really great way to play my mobile games.
One thing that I didn’t feel was an issue was how far the buttons were apart from each other when you have the controllers attached to the sides of the phone. I found this be very comfortable and enjoyed playing games this way.
Razer has said that it’s interested in releasing more phone cases for the gamepad so that other phones are supported, but didn’t give any confirmation on whether or not it would bring any to market.
Obviously, it can’t make cases for every single smartphone out there, but it can pick the most popular ones, like the Pixel 3 and Pixel 4, and perhaps some from the likes of LG and other top brands. In fact, that’s how Razer decided on the phones that it picked and which are currently supported. It found them to be the most popular.
This isn’t just a mobile gamepad, even though that’s its main function
This is primarily a mobile gamepad. There’s no dispute there and I don’t think anyone would argue otherwise. The nice thing is that Razer also designed this to have some versatility.
It works with other devices besides mobile phones and that’s the beauty of it. And likely part of why it costs $99. Because of the Bluetooth technology that powers the connection between this and devices, it works with smartphones, tablets, and even PCs.
This means it can be your controller for multiple devices if you need it to be. And only a mobile gamepad if that’s what you prefer.
It also works with more than just mobile games and games on PC. It’s also now a confirmed compatible controller for xCloud, Microsoft’s game streaming service which is currently in beta. It does not work for iOS though. So this isn’t a good choice if you need a controller for your iPhone or iPad.
Design
At a glance, there’s no question that the Razer Junglecat resembles the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers. The mobile controller for Android is actually comprised of four total pieces: left controller, right controller, slide-in controller grip, and a phone grip case.

Razer Junglecat Controllers
To start with, the matte black left and right controllers pretty much mirror each other. The left controller has an LED indicator in the upper left corner, a clickable thumbstick in the top third of the controller, four directional buttons in the lower half, and a select button in the lower right. On the top edge, you’ll find a bumper and trigger. The bottom edge is where the power switch and USB Type-C charging port is located.
The left Razer Junglecat controller.
As mentioned, the right controller is basically the same. The two notable differences are the tactile switch A/B/X/Y buttons instead of the directional pad and the start button instead of the select button. Both controllers have a slot on the inside edge which is used to attach the controllers to the included phone grip cases or the slide-in controller grip. On the outer edge, near the bottom, the Razer logo is debossed in gloss black.
Slide-in Controller Grip
The slide-in controller grip is pretty simple and is also matte black. The Razer logo is, again, debossed in gloss black in the middle. The left and right edge of the controller grip have slots that are the reverse of the controllers and allow the left and right controller to easily slide down and attach to it. When the controllers are attached to the controller grip, the controller unit is just over 3 1/4-inches in height and just over 4-inches in width. Personally, it would be nice to have it slightly wider for a more comfortable grip.
The Razer Junglecat with slide-in controller grip.
Phone-grip cases
The Razer Junglecat comes with three phone-grip cases. One for the Razer Phone 2, another for the Samsung Galaxy S10+, and a third for the Samsung Galaxy Note9. As such, while the Junglecat only works with any Android phone, you’ll only get the full handheld experience with those three devices.
The phone-grip case itself is pretty rigid black plastic. In the case of the Razer Phone 2 case, there are cutouts on the left and right side for the volume and power buttons. The bottom does have a cutout for the USB Type-C charging port but there is no cutout on the top for the 3.5mm audio jack.
The top and bottom edge of the case has similar slots as the slide-in controller grip, making it easy to slide the left and right controllers into the case. Finally, the back of the case has the Razer logo centered on it as well as a cutout for the rear cameras.
When the case is on the phone, it does fit fairly snug. With the controllers attached, it is fairly comfortable to use and hold. However, the case itself isn’t something I’d want to be keeping on the phone full time. In fact, I found myself swapping cases on the Razer Phone 2 for when I wasn’t using the Razer Junglecat. Personally, I would have liked to see Razer implement the Junglecat with the Razer Arctech case. Not only is that a nicer looking case but it also helps to dissipate the heat your phone creates during more CPU intensive operations, like gaming.
Junglecat?

Price/Value
With an MSRP of US$99.99, the Razer Junglecat isn’t exactly cheap. However, if you are a fan of the side-by-side controller layout and have one of the three supported phones, the Razer Junglecat does work well for most Android games that support controllers.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus.
What you’ll dislike about the Razer Junglecat
Source: Windows Central (Image credit: Source: Windows Central)
As noted, this thing is pretty damn small. Even as someone with relatively small hands (and no it is NOT true what they say about people with small hands … I swear), I found it quite cramped to use, particularly over time. I’d also argue it was a mistake of Razer to use symmetrical thumbsticks, given that the Nintendo Switch’s are offset. It creates a needless muscle memory gap that has to be overcome for anyone who uses a Nintendo Switch frequently.
Still, it’s easy to learn through and get used to the controller’s size over time. On build quality, the Junglecat feels solid in general. Each separate joycon feels dense, despite being lightweight for ease of use. The buttons are all very tactile and «clicky,» although the shoulder buttons have a fair degree of flex in them, which makes me worry about their long-term survivability. The d-pad is also designed as buttons first, directional pad second, which fighting game fans will want to be aware of. Nothing about the construction felt like a deal-breaker, however, but there are a few other problems worth being aware of.
Unfortunately, Razer only supplies docking cases for four handset models on Android. They are the most popular four handsets on the market, but they don’t offer the cases in all territories either.
Source: Windows Central (Image credit: Source: Windows Central)
My review unit had to be imported from the US, for example, since the Galaxy Note 9 case isn’t available in Europe. It would be great if Razer would sell the cases separately, or even provide 3D printing plans online for the community to make and sell them, if it doesn’t intend to do so itself.
The other problems are more to do with general Android gaming problems than Razer problems. I found myself using the Junglecat mostly as a regular gamepad on my Galaxy Tab A tablet instead of on my phone, which provides a better gaming experience thanks to its larger display. I could simply use my Xbox controller for that, though, which is $60 cheaper than the Junglecat, and feels better to use in the hand.
Performance
Of course, the big question here is just how does the Razer Junglecat perform? We put the controller through its paces on games like Fortnite, Rayman Adventures, Riptide GP2, and Call of Duty: Mobile. For the first three, the controller worked admirably. Not only was it responsive but there was no noticeable lag that I could see. The button inputs, thumbsticks, and triggers were as responsive as I’d expect and only impacted gameplay positively.
Unfortunately, the controller isn’t supported in Call of Duty: Mobile yet and I couldn’t get the software overlay feature n the Razer Gamepad app to work for the game either. It’s not the end of the world, but my Elite Series 2 Controller worked just fine with the game.
The Razer Junglecat with slide-in controller grip and Pixel 4 XL.
Design
The Razer Junglecat consists of two separate joysticks complete with triggers, shoulder buttons, a directional pad, two analog thumbsticks, and standard ABXY buttons. Out of the box, it’s directly compatible with Project XCloud and Xbox Game Streaming. At first glance, there’s no doubt that the Razer Junglecat resembles a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controller. The Razer Junglecat is made with quality materials considering that Razer maintains and sticks with the build’s quality.
Very comfortable to hold; I prefer a slightly bigger controller when gaming. Junglecat is never uncomfortable or irritating. And playing games with it for hours on end is still a delightful experience. The design features Razer’s signature matte black finish that looks like all its techs. Both controllers slide in and out of place on the included center connector and phone case. They’re not that hard to lock into place, so you don’t have to fumble around too much. Overall, the controller looks great, feels great, it fits perfectly into smaller pockets making it super easy to carry wherever you wish to have time to play games.
Should you buy the Razer Junglecat?
Source: Windows Central (Image credit: Source: Windows Central)
If you’re going to buy this thing, at $100, you’ll really want to be invested in mobile gaming on your cellphone. In terms of price, it makes far more sense to simply pick up an Xbox One controller and a cheap mobile phone clip to save some cash.
That said, the portability and immense 100+ hour battery life (charged via USB-C) make a good argument for the Junglecat’s price point, even if you’re not going to use it with its cellphone docking case.
I’ve used a fairly large pool of mobile gamepads and third-party controllers in my time, and Razer’s are quite easily among the best. In some ways, the joysticks on the Junglecat are better even than Nintendo’s Switch joycons, but with both I still find myself yearning to go back to an Xbox controller after a short while.
The Junglecat isn’t designed to replace your Xbox One controller, though, it’s instead designed to elevate the mobile gaming experience, effectively turning your mobile device into a mini Nintendo Switch. Although I think there’s plenty of room for refinement, the 100-hour battery life alone makes this an essential piece of kit for long-form portable Android gaming. And make no mistake, when the Junglecat is combined with Project XCloud, it feels like a glimpse at the future.

Although the range of compatible devices is limited, the Razer Junglecat is a truly great portable mobile gamepad even undocked.
