Lenovo Chromebook Duet battery life
Lenovo claimed that the Chromebook Duet has a battery runtime of 10 hours, which I expected to be a slight exaggeration (check out my Laptop battery life estimates are rarely accurate article), but as it turns out, Lenovo actually undersold the Duet’s battery longevity.

When we ran our battery life test on the Lenovo Chromebook Duet, which involves continuous Web surfing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness, this little firecracker gave us 12 hours and 46 minutes of vivacity. The Duet’s rivals — the Samsung Chromebook 3 and the HP Chromebook x360 12b — couldn’t beat the miniature Chromebook with battery runtimes of 9 hours and 44 minutes and 8 hours and 6 minutes, respectively. The Lenovo Chromebook Duet also conquered the average battery runtime of Chromebooks, which is 10 hours and 19 minutes.
Lenovo Chromebook Duet performance
I bombarded the Lenovo Chromebook Duet, equipped with a MediaTek Helio P60T CPU and 4GB of RAM, with 24 Google Chrome tabs. I added a tab that played a 1080p YouTube video and opened up Google Docs. There were a few negligible seconds of lag as the Duet loaded the new Chrome tab, but as I got into the flow of typing on Google Docs, I was surprised to see that there was no system slowdown — I wrote paragraph after paragraph without experiencing any lag.

Scoring 5,526 on the Geekbench 4 overall performance benchmark, the Duet crushed two competitors: the HP Chromebook x360 12b (3,400), which is equipped with an Intel Celeron N400 and 4GB of RAM, and the HP Chromebook 14 (2,733), which is powered by an Intel Celeron N3350 CPU and 4GB of RAM. The Duet also scored higher than the average Chromebook, which has an overall-performance score of 5,293.
However, the Lenovo Chromebook Duet faltered on the JetStream Javascript benchmark, which tests the speediness of web-page loading. The Duet scored 31.9, while the HP Chromebook x360 12b (49.7) and the HP Chromebook 14 (57.8) outpaced the miniature Chromebook. The Duet was also defeated by the category average of 98.8.
How does the Snapdragon processor perform?

In order to balance performance, pricing, and battery life, Lenovo opted for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 processor rather than an Intel or MediaTek SoC. This refreshed version of the Snapdragon 7c features an octa-core arrangement, with two performance cores at 2.55GHz and six efficiency cores at 1.8GHz. In the US, it is paired with an Adreno 618 GPU, 4GB or 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM, and 64GB or 128GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. There’s no expandable storage, but there is the Google H1 security chip to help keep the device protected. The H1 works like other Trusted Platform Modules, which store artifacts used to authenticate the device.

The sum of these parts is a machine that handles everyday computing and entertainment tasks without breaking too much of a sweat. I never ran into any trouble, lagging, or sluggishness when performing simple tasks like browsing the web with multiple tabs open, playing music, streaming video, or managing my inbox. The Duet 5 does well with these types of activities. More demanding apps, such as games, present more of a challenge to the Chromebook. Something like Asphalt 9: Legends ran just okay on the Duet 5. The game was slow to load new segments and there were definitely some stutters during gameplay here and there.
The Duet 5 handles everyday computing and entertainment tasks without breaking too much of a sweat.
These observational results bore out in benchmark testing. The Duet 5 scored a lowly 61 on CrXPRT and just 610/1709 on Geekbench. To put those into perspective, the Duet 5’s scores are about half the numbers put up by the Lenovo Flex 5i, which runs on Intel Core i3.
This detachable Chromebook is absolutely fine for basic, at-home computing tasks — particularly those that center on entertainment. It’s not the best option for gamers or those who need to run more powerful programs.

Design & Build
One of the reasons why the Lenovo Chromebook Duet made such a lasting impression when we first saw it at CES this year was its design. If you’ve used or even just seen a tablet in the past few years, you’d be forgiven if you failed to tell them apart. That’s not the case with this device. The Chromebook Duet has a unique two-tone aluminum and plastic case that give it a premium feel while also adding a touch of playfulness we rarely see in this category.
Weighing in at 450 grams, the tablet is pretty light, making it comfortable to hold for longer sessions. When holding it in landscape mode (the natural orientation for a Chrome OS tablet, the USB C charging port, power button and volume rocker are located on the right edge. The bezel’s around the 10.1-inch display aren’t particularly thin when compared to today’s smartphones or ultrabook laptops, but they’re smaller than those of the new Surface Go 2 and significantly thinner than what Apple delivers on its 10-inch iPad.
If I could change one thing, I would relocate the stereo speakers from the top edge to the front of the tablet and throw in a 3.5mm headphone jack. Those two minor changes would make the Duet more suited for media consumption, a use case Lenovo is targeting with this device.
As you might expect, the build quality of the Lenovo Chromebook Duet isn’t going to be on the same level as an iPad or a Surface from Microsoft, but that’s not to say it’s bad. Far from it, in fact. Lenovo is the biggest computer manufacturer on the planet and knows how to deliver incredible hardware even at this price point.

Where the Duet really shines is as a companion device, as a tablet that you can use while the kids are hogging the family computer or you’re in the backyard away from your desktop. The Duet is a battery-sipping beauty that may not be the sleekest or shiniest tablet around, but it’s certainly the most practical tablet out there. Even as we head into 2022, that’s exactly what we need.

Lenovo Chromebook Duet

For a budget Chromebook, the audio on the Duet is exactly what I expected: they’re simply OK. The dual speakers — positioned on the top of the tablet — delivered well-balanced sound with decent audio quality.
I listened to “This City” by Sam Fischer on Spotify, and the sentimental ballad sounded smooth and angelic on the speakers as Fischer crooned his heart out. However, when I listened to songs with heavy bass drops, it sounded marginally distorted, but it didn’t sour my listening experience.
The Duet’s dual speakers filled my medium-sized, social-distancing prison cell — er, I mean room — just fine. But in a bigger space, the speakers will likely struggle to take over the room.
Pros

- Lightweight and easily portable – It fits perfectly in your handbag. However, it’s also great to have a device that has a whole new level of battery life and portability. The battery power life of ten hours keeps you out of anxiety about going off.
- With a weight of less than one pound and a thickness of 0.29-inches, when compared to most tablets, it’s thinner and light, thus facilitating carrying and holding it easily around.
- Tablet and Laptop mode – Detaching the keyboard is a simple way of switching your Lenovo duet Chromebook from laptop mode to tablet mode. The USI stylus pen makes it more comfortable and smooth for sketching and note-taking, the device is way up to date and technically very advanced.

Thus allowing the user to minimize video apps like prime video or YouTube, and continue working on other things while still watching the minimized video. Multi-tasking at it’s best.
- It’s affordable – With the above outgoing features, advances, and high technology designs, the tablet is cheaper compared to most of its competitors. The 64 GB model is starting at $279.
A Bargain on Its Own Terms
While Microsoft’s Surface Go 2 starts at $399.99 with a Pentium CPU and without a keyboard, our recent test unit was $729.99, or $859 with matching Type Cover. To be sure, its Core m3 CPU and 128GB solid-state drive give much faster performance than the Chromebook Duet, but at that price, they’d better. As for Apple’s iPad, it’s $429 with 128GB of storage, or $588 with Smart Keyboard, so the Lenovo’s $299.99 with keyboard and kickstand remains a remarkable value. (The Apple and Microsoft tablets are available with LTE mobile broadband; the Duet isn’t, but offers tethering to Android phones.)
The Chromebook Duet earns an honorable mention among Chromebooks for consumers and captures our Editors’ Choice among Chromebooks for students. Besides being a bargain, it’s a thoughtfully designed and well-crafted detachable, especially for Android phone owners; the tablet and its peripherals have the look and feel of a product costing much more. As you use it, you keep discovering things—from the cameras to the screen brightness—that are better than you expected. I wish it had a faster CPU, but I believe a lot of users will be very happy with it.

Keyboard & Trackpad
With the smaller form factor of the tablet comes a reduced amount of space for the keys on the keyboard. The main letter keys are all a reasonable size and fall well under the fingers if you’re a touch-typist like myself.
There is a small amount of adjustment to make, but it doesn’t take long to feel natural. The same can’t be said of the special keys on the right side of the layout, which have been reduced to half-size in order to save space.
The return key is also flat rather than L-shaped and vertical, so if you’re used to that kind of arrangement then you may find yourself hitting the key a little too often instead.
For light typing it’s decent enough, but any long stretches soon become a little tiring as you work with the cramped layout. By contrast, for years I used the Google Pixel C tablet and keyboard, which was excellent as a mobile workstation.
While I love the look of the Duet, it does suffer somewhat by the compromised typing experience in comparison. Of course, you could just use a regular Bluetooth keyboard of your choosing, which would instantly make a marked improvement for any intense typing projects.
The trackpad is a little small, but as the Duet is also a tablet you’re able to mix between mouse controls and simply touching the screen, so you hardly notice the limited surface area. There were several instances where the trackpad failed to register softer clicks though, so a firm tap is recommended.
Lapability
Yes, it’s a silly word I’ll admit, and I’m not the first to use it, but 2-in-1 devices can be a bit hit and miss when it comes to using them on your lap. As there is no hinge to hold the display in place, you’re at the mercy of your thighs when determining the lapability of the device.
I found that angling the Duet so that it was comfortable enough to read clearly, meant that the kick-stand was right on the edge of my kneecaps, so any forward motion would knock it off and send the device plummeting towards the floor.
If you’re the supermodel type, with legs that go on forever, then you should have no problems, but for hobbit-folk like me, you may want to move to a table or desk.

Bottom line
The Lenovo Chromebook Duet reminds me of the Microsoft Surface Go with its miniature design, convenient kickstand and detachable keyboard, but the Duet’s $279 pricing is more palatable — plus the keyboard actually comes with the package.

The Duet also has a colorful touchscreen display and it outperforms all of its Chromebook rivals on performance, battery life and brightness. And because of its spectacular low price, I’m willing to overlook the Duet’s thick bezels and absent headphone jack.
However, there’s one major setback with the Duet: its cramped keyboard. Personally, I’d recommend the Duet for on-the-go travelers seeking a secondary, super-small device that adds very little weight to their luggage as they hop from airport to airport. It’s so small, travelers can prop the Duet up on the airplane tray table and get some light work done before coming home to a larger workstation.I’d also recommend the Duet for kids who want an attractive 2-in-1 for light gaming, YouTube, Netflix and web browsing.
For intensive productivity that requires hours and hours of typing, however, the Duet’s keyboard is a letdown. For this use case, I’d recommend the HP Chromebook x360 12b — it’s within the same price range as the Duet and the keyboard is a dream.
But if you’re a Chrome OS-loving frequent traveler or a busy bee seeking a smaller, secondary display, I’d suggest the Duet in a heartbeat. Admittedly, the Lenovo Chromebook Duet is still an amazing bang-for-your-buck product that’s a total star in the 2-in-1 Chromebook space.

Клавиатура тоже довольно приличная, клавиши имеют удивительно хороший ход, а сама клавиатура остается прочной, когда я стучал по ней. Я заметил странный технический сбой, когда индикатор мыши не отображался, но повторное подключение клавиатуры всегда решало проблему.
У меня есть пара зависаний, особенно от крошечных клавиш, которые, вероятно, вызовут мигрень у машинисток. Клавиатура не имеет наклона, как крышка типа Surface Go 2, вместо этого она лежит на столе, что неудобно – хотя это не отличается от iPad.
